We obey, obey, obey, obey, obey, and this is all done in our own power, and this is all done apart from the dependence on the Holy Spirit, and this is all done apart from the recognition that Christ has indeed purchased that holiness for us,

that He has provided the Spirit to apply that holiness to us, that He is the standard of holiness

and that he is the example of holiness.

And what we wind up doing is just putting our shoulders down, working ourselves to death,

and then you wonder why your people are just unloving?

Why they are extraordinarily judgmental.

Why it is that if I were to walk into your church with the blue jeans that I'm wearing right now

that have got holes in the knees, I would get looked at sideways.

Somebody might ask me to leave, in fact, which I have seen happen in fundamentalist churches, right?

You got there because you cared more about somebody's opinion than you did about Jesus.

And the horrible thing to me, Eric, is that the same guys that are doing this are the guys that are abusing little kids.

Yeah.

Right?

So not only are you weighing these people down with an extraordinary burden that they already have a hard time bearing, right?

Now you use that as a tool to sneak in the side door and start abusing them physically or sexually

or emotionally or mentally.

And you use scripture to do it, you absolute piece of garbage.

This is mind-boggling to me, and it's amazing how much of it comes back to this.

It's amazing how much of it comes back to legalism and Christ not being at the center of this conversation.

Right.
