Been a long time coming this one I've had a bit of a delay.

There's been a lot going on here at the Hot World Studios but we're back now with some more history A to Z to carry on the series

and the theme of the most recent history of the World Podcast magazine publications. We've now reached the

letter D. So we're going to start this week's History of the World Podcast magazine episode with Darius the first, one of the

kings of Akeminid Persia. So we're going right the way back to the first millennium B.C.

Now for those of you don't know Darius, he's commonly known as Darius the Great and he was a Persian ruler who

reigned from 522 b.c. until his death in 486 b.C. E. and as the third King of Kings of the Akeminid Empire he presided

over the empire's territorial peak and his legacy endures as an accomplished leader and a builder of

monumental projects. Let's hear some more about him from a previous history of the World Podcast episode.

The Rice's origins are hazy.

It seems that he was the eldest of five children,

and it seems that his father held a high office,

although we're not completely sure where this was.

His father's name was His Taspis,

and he appears to have served in Cyrus the Great served in Cambys II's the Second Army.

Darius the First's reign over the Akhyanid Persian Empire was absolutely considerable.

If it wasn't already enough to talk of the achievements of Cyrus the Great, then there is a lot to talk about when it comes to Darius the Great.

Now I don't want to go into too much detail about the Rice's ascent to the throne of Akeminid Persia,

purely because the original sources have differences in their accounts and many historians

seemed to tell the story which entertains them the most. There is suggestion
