letter D. So we're going to start this week's History of the World Podcast magazine episode with Darius the first, one of the

kings of Akeminid Persia. So we're going right the way back to the first millennium B.C.

Now for those of you don't know Darius, he's commonly known as Darius the Great and he was a Persian ruler who

reigned from 522 b.c. until his death in 486 b.C. E. and as the third King of Kings of the Akeminid Empire he presided

over the empire's territorial peak and his legacy endures as an accomplished leader and a builder of

monumental projects. Let's hear some more about him from a previous history of the World Podcast episode.

The Rice's origins are hazy.

It seems that he was the eldest of five children,

and it seems that his father held a high office,
