And today is part two of our history of narcolepsy.

In the first episode, we talked about what narcolepsy is

and when it was first written about, at least in the western record,

and of the work that was being done by German psychiatrist Karl Friedrich Otto Westfall in the late 1870s.

And as we left off, Westfall was really kind of onto the idea that he was,

that what he was seeing in these two particular cases that he talked about

might actually be a unique condition and not something that could be lumped under an existing diagnosis.

And today we're going to pick up with the next big step in the history of narcolepsy.

So Jean-Baptiste Edward Gellano is always mentioned in articles about narcolepsy in history

because he coined the term.
