Vicky Falcombe. I'm taking you back through the archives to 1937 when the pride of Nazi Germany, the Hindenburg airship, burst into flames and crashed to worth.

Germany's new giant dirigible, the largest ever built, comes out of her shed at

Friedrichshapen for the first time.

It's 1936 and German engineers are showing off their latest airship,

the LZ 129, the Hindenburg, the largest aircraft ever built.

She's been designed and constructed under the supervision of Germany's airship wizard, Dr Hugo Ekner.

Ladies and gentlemen, the airship who is her you see in this picture is scheduled to make a series of flights to the United States next summer.

The length is approximately 800 feet.

The diameter is about 140 feet.

And the gas capacity is 7,100,000 cubic feet.

The ship is equipped with 4,000 cubic feet. The ship is equipped with four diesel engines, each of 1,200 horsepower,

which will give the ship a top speed of 85 miles per.
