unity forged by shared adversity and dreams of a brighter future. Dedicated to sewing the land, those enslaved in the hills were few, but still far too many. As the bells of emancipation rang out across the South. Many formerly enslaved chose to stay, building

settlements of their own throughout the hills.

They found solace in each other's stories as they labored against untamed landscapes.

Communities like Liberia, South Carolina stood defiant in the face of oppression,

championing their intrinsic worth when society sought to suffocate their
