We mentioned also that God has a work to do, and Paul says in verse 28, he will finish

the work and cut it short in righteousness because the short work will the Lord make upon

the earth, which is a prophecy of the tribulation period, during which time Jesus comes

back to earth to act as judge.

Jesus as given in John chapter 5 is the one designated to judge the earth.

God does not act as judge, but Jesus himself directly acts as judge.

And it's going to be a short work. That is to say, in terms of the world,

which measures things in thousands of years, the tribulation is going to be seven years long,

just a very short time. And it's going to be, I think, an action-packed seven years,

putting about seven thousand years worth of judgment into seven years, really.

In verse 29, and as Isaiah said before, except the Lord of Sabahot had left us a seed,

we had been as Sodom and like unto Gomorrah.

Isaiah speaking in terms of God as judge, that is God as commander of the heavenly armies in verse 29,

has mercifully allowed Israel to remain as a seed.

Starting in verse 30, what shall we say then?

That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness,

even the righteousness which is of faith, but Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness,

have not attained to the law of righteousness.
