Very special guest on our show today, one I'm personally very thankful for for his service to our country.

His name is Rich Divini and he was a commanding officer of an elite force in the Navy Seals, with a career spanning more than 20 years and 13 overseas deployment.

As the officer in charge of training for a specialized command, Rich spearheaded the creation of a director that fused physical, mental and emotional disciplines.

He also led the selection and human performance development in the Seals.

Rich now teaches on leadership and optimal performance and recently reached his first book, which is a great book which will not be his last.

Give us a little background. Where did you grow up? What was like growing up in the Divini household?

Well, I grew up in New England and we are a nice town in Connecticut. Kind of an average, just a nice childhood.

That's the Divini, Irish name, not an Italian name. But my mom, my mom is, her dad was from Malta, her mom was Greek and she was born in Egypt. She used to say, you guys are all muts, which is good because you're citizens of the world.

We had that open-mindedness from day one. Interesting enough, my dad was a private pilot. He used to take us flying every weekend and we loved it.

I have a twin brother. He and I were sold from day one and so from the age of six years old we wanted to be Navy pilots because we figured, well, Navy pilots, those guys land on ships.

It couldn't be harder than that, right?

And it was really after the first Gulf War in the 90s that I learned about SEAL teams and said to myself, you know, that sounds really interesting.
