| 0:00.0 | There's a hidden cost of walking. Whether you realize it or not, you've experienced it. |
| 0:07.0 | In fact, I believe that we all have. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily podcast that provides motivation for a 10-minute walk. |
| 0:16.0 | Because every day, there's a brand new 10-minute walk, an episode recorded while I'm out walking, and we will get started on our 10 minute walk in just a moment and talk about the hidden cost of walking. |
| 0:33.6 | So just before I pressed record, I was actually standing still and for a moment was caught up in what was happening around me, the sounds of what was happening around me. |
| 0:50.3 | And it was multiple birds. And then I pressed record, started walking, |
| 0:57.7 | and the birds have stopped chirping, |
| 1:01.6 | and I'm getting close to, I don't know if that's a generator |

| 1:34.8 | purposes a pretty low-cost fitness activity at times I'm tempted to say it's |
| 1:41.1 | free but the reality is if you want to do it intentionally and you |
| 1:46.4 | want to do it long term, you need to invest in a good pair of shoes. |
| 1:53.5 | And it's not just a one-time investment. |
| 1:57.0 | Generally, shoes are good. |
| 1:59.4 | They provide your feet the support they need for up to about 500 miles. |
| 2:07.4 | So do the math. |
| 2:09.2 | If you walk 10 miles a day, that's probably too much. |
| 2:11.5 | That'd be 20,000 steps a day. |
| 2:13.4 | If you walk five miles a day, which is 10,000 steps, and you're using the same shoes for all of those steps, |
| 2:22.6 | all right, math on the fly, five miles, you've got about 100 days, so a little more than three months. |
| 2:30.6 | So you're replacing your shoes maybe three times a year. And I wish shoes were less expensive than they are. |
