Welcome back to The Nurses Report on America Out Loud. I'm your host, Ashley Computo, registered nurse, and functional medicine practitioner.

Today's episode, it's kind of spinning off of what we talked about last week, but it's something

that impacts millions of Americans, and most

people have just never heard of it. So today we're going to dive more into pharmacy benefit

managers or PBMs and something called carveouts. And these are entities quietly controlling

what medications you can get, when you can get them,

and sometimes whether you get them at all.

And we're going to walk through exactly how this system works and how it impacts real patients.

I'm joined today again by Amy Whitlock, who's experiencing firsthand through a case involving a

specialty pharmacy carve out trying to get her son's medication.
