Here’s what may be really causing your manganese deficiency, and what to do about it.

Today, we’re going to talk about manganese and the hidden cause of a manganese deficiency,

Basics on what manganese does in the body:

Manganese is a trace mineral. You need manganese in small amounts. If you’re deficient in manganese, it creates all sorts of big problems.

1. Antioxidant enzyme

2. Gluconeogenesis

3. Detox ammonia—urea

4. It’s involved in the brain (converting glutamate into glutamine)

5. It’s involved in bone and cartilage

6. It’s involved in wound healing with collagen

Manganese deficiency causes:

 • Liver damage

 • Whole grains—phytic acid

 • Herbs (tea)—tannins

 • Leafy greens—oxalates

 • Glyphosate—GMO foods

*The most important thing you can do is to consume organic foods.

0:48.0

Now first let me just give you some basics on what manganese does in the body.

0:52.4

It's a lot. It's a trace mineral, which means it's a mineral that you don't need in large amounts. You need it in small amounts. And if you're deficient, it creates all sorts of big problems.

1:04.0

Most of the manganese in your body is located in your mitochondria, the energy factory of the body.

1:10.0

Now, why do we need it in there?

1:12.0

Because this trace mineral is involved in many enzymes.

1:17.0

Okay, so it's kind of like a essential helper element in these enzymes or cellular machinery that do certain work in the body.

1:29.4

So one of the purposes of manganese is to act as an antioxidant and the name of the

1:35.1

enzyme is called manganese superoxide dismutase and the function of this

1:40.8

enzyme is simply to clean up the byproducts of the energy that's produced in the monochandria.

1:49.0

90% of the oxygen in the cells are used by the monocondria. So you have a lot of

1:54.8

oxygen burning a lot of fuel and giving off some byproducts. And so this

2:01.0

enzyme will help to stabilize the oxidative free radicals and it turns it into

2:08.4

hydrogen peroxide and water.

2:11.4

So basically it's an antioxidant that actually handles some of the free radical damage that comes off the metabolism from the mitochondria.

2:21.0

The next one would be gluconeogenesis and this is basically the

2:25.9

production of glucose in the body from non-glucose sources, whether it's protein, fat, or ketones, your body can make glucose from other things.

2:38.6

And so if you're deficient in manganese, there's some studies that show that it will increase your risk of

2:43.2

diabetes simply because you're not able to make your own source of glucose.
