So of course, most of the time when we think about the heart we think about that physical

organ in our body that is in the center of our chest.

It receives deoxygenated blood,

which is the end product of metabolic activity in your body and through the inferior vena cava and the

superior vena cava which are veins it receives blood in the right chamber of the heart.

And there are two aspects to the chamber of the heart,

atrium and ventricle.

The right ventricle then pumps the heart to the lungs where it gets oxygenated and from the lungs it returns again to the heart the left ventricle from where the blood flows

to the rest of the body oxygenated blood without which we cannot survive.

The physical heart beats about 72 times a minute in a healthy person.

When you exercise, the heart rate goes up, when you meditate or sleep or are relaxed the heart rate goes down but usually

remains in the range of about 70 beats a minute,

plus minus, say, five beats.

So let's say 68 to 75 would be a healthy heartbeat.

When we are stressed, of course, the heart rate increases.

It's also important to recognize that this heartbeat is triggered by electrical activity which has its source in something called a

pace maker in the heart.

These are cells that initiate electricity.
