the last thing you want to do is lower standards.

To say DEI is bad, I think is misguided.

The University of Pennsylvania Medical School,

my name was wiped out of the history of the kidney division.

Because I pointed out a study that showed

that minority residents were performing less well.

We're diving in to one of the most polarizing debates in America.

Well, tonight we're diving in to one of the most polarizing debates in America,

the role

of diversity, equity, and inclusion, often called DEI.

But we are focusing specifically on its impact in the field of medicine.

This affects us all, so you need to lean in, because I want to hear from you all.

All you hear, all of you at home.

There is a push to ensure that our health care system is inclusive and equitable for everyone,

regardless of race, gender, or background.

And I could not agree more. Definitely an admirable goal, but not everyone

agrees on how this should be done or if it should be done at all. Some argue that DEI is essential

for addressing health disparities. Others believe that it's nothing but a quota system

that is dangerous at best and could lead to unintended consequences such as lower standards of

excellence or division among health care professionals who may resent being forced to work with unqualified colleagues.
