I'm Lauren Norton, and this is one strange thing,

the show where we search the nation's news archives for stories that can't quite be explained.

Strangers, we have to be honest.

We have not had good luck with dolls.

At least, not on this program.

Call them figurines or toys or marionettes.

Whatever.

It has not gone well.

And while it's well established that we hear

at one strange thing are neither default believers nor hardened skeptics, we really are willing to

take our weirdness on a case-by-case basis. Our experiences in the possessed toy genre

have left us feeling a little, well, skittish about further coverage.

Perhaps we should explain.

You may remember our episode, The Toy, which told the story of Robert.

He's a purportedly haunted doll from Key West, if dolls can be from a place, who was once in the possession of

the wealthy eccentric Robert Gene Otto. Yes, both toy and man were named Robert, but the man

went by Gene. We won't get into that again. Anyway, after much drama, Robert the doll came to rest, in a literal sense, at the 40s Martello Museum.

And per the official website, his supernatural influence has continued.

Quote, once he was put on exhibit, cameras and electronic devices malfunctioned in his presence.

And soon letters began arriving addressed to the doll,

offering apologies for disrespectful behavior or asking forgiveness.

Why letters of apology?
