How are you doing today?

We've got Doc.

We got Max and Sherry and me.

And kind of a sad thing.

A lot of people may not know who this guy is.

Richard Roundtree was an American actor and was known as the first black action hero for his portrayal of

the private detective shaft.

The film was released in 1972 and it was an amazing hit.

It was a very, very big song.

I think it may have gone number one.

Isaac Hayes wrote it, I believe, and recorded it.

And it was played all over the place.

My connection of this song is when I was just out of my teens, I was working for a radio station,

and they had a morning man on who was an older guy and really didn't know the music very well.

And so he was told to play, you know, the stack of music and Shaft, I think was an oldie then, was one of the songs.

So he was spinning vinyl. And I'm driving into a staff meeting it's like

815 in the morning i've been up until like two in the evening i'm really tired and i put on the

radio station and it's a it's a it's a big station. And I'm listening to this guy.

And all of a sudden he says, here's, here's one you might remember from the movie Shaft.
