David Lloyd created a stylized version for his graphic novel, V for Vendetta,

and it's since come to be recognized as a global symbol for rebellion.

Yeah, you see the mask in stores at Halloween and everybody knows it, you know, with the goatee and all that.

In 1605, Fox and his fellow conspirators hatched the gunpowder plot,

a plan to blow up the British House of Parliament.
