Earlier this season we put together what we called the

Hader rules it was about reliver Josh Hader earlier in his career lost arbitration

to the Milwaukee Brewers and then explain to the Brewers why he was

putting in rules for them about how he would be used as a pitcher.

Josh Hader made his debut with the Brewers in the summer of 2017.

And over the next three seasons, he was a Swiss Army knife for Milwaukee manager Craig

Council in 2004 and 2 3rds innings.

He truck out 349 batters and generated a 2.42 ERA,

often pitching in high leverage situations, often in appearances of multiple innings, often on consecutive days.

Made two All-Star teams, Council acknowledged at the time,

Peter was an historically great performer. Because of the unique manner in which he was

deployed, what he did not do was generate many saves, which is a statistic that arbitration cases were long based on in baseball.

When he became eligible for arbitration, the winner following the 2019 season,

his agent, Jeff Berry, hoped that the Brewers would give him a one-year deal that reflected

his value to the franchise.

Barry asked for $6.4 million in arbitration, a number that was just a shade higher than the closest precedent he

could find. Eleven years before, Jonathan Papal Bond had won a 6.25 million
