This is Michael Cohen, and you're listening to the Mayor Culper podcast. We're taking a few days off, but after Independence Day weekend, riddled with gun violence that left many Americans reeling,

we wanted to bring you a best of interview with David Hogg, a prominent

gun safety activist and survivor of the 2018 school shooting in Parkland, Florida. He's also the founder

of March for Our Lives after the back-to-back tragedies in Buffalo, New York and Yuvaldi, Texas.

March for our lives held marches across the country on June 11th

that saw hundreds of thousands of supporters turn out,

hopeful that their voices would be heard and that America would finally put an end

to the senseless scourge of gun violence.

But here we are, folks, not a month later,

and the mass shooting at a 4th of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois,

was just one of 11 mass shooting incidents across the country over the weekend.

It was reported by the gun violence archive that between

Friday and Monday, I mean, get a load of this, 220 people were shot and killed and 570 people were

injured. And though President Biden signed the most significant bipartisan federal gun legislation in nearly a decade in late June,

a week later, the rogue Supreme Court undercut any value the bill might have had when it shot down a hundred-year-old concealed carry law in New York State that will essentially upgrade the Second Amendment,

the right to bear arms to a consecrated right on par with the First Amendment protections,
