On September 12, 1952, five boys were outside on a school playground in the small town of Flatwoods, West Virginia, just before dusk, when they saw something that would change their lives forever.

A ball of fire streaking across the sky. By that description alone, one might think it was a meteor,

but it was moving slowly and appeared to be under intelligent control, especially when it

landed just over a ridge not too far away from them. The boys described it as about the size

of a house and noticed that it decelerated before performing what appeared to be a controlled

landing. Although this was 73 years ago, a few of the eyewitnesses remain, and even though they are

reluctant to grand interviews, in 2018, Ed and Fred May, along with others, did speak to our

friends at Small Town Monsters for a documentary, and what they had to say needs

to be heard. It made things clear and more complex at the same time. As you might expect, when

this thing came down out of the sky, these boys immediately wanted to check it out. They all

went to the May House, and there they convinced Ed and Fred's 32-year-old mother, Kathleen, to come with them,

along with another older visiting cousin, Jean Lemon, who was in the National Guard at the time.

What they found when they reached the landing site was incredibly bizarre.

An imposing 12-to-15-foot-tall, vaguely humanoid-shaped object that may have been biological or mechanical

hovering silently in the air and surrounded by a strange mist.

Then they shown a flashlight on it and it, quote,

lit up like a Christmas tree, making all kinds of loud sizzling sounds as it began to pursue them.

Many of the additional details are bizarre and terrifying, and this astonishing legend has taken on a life of its own in the intervening years,
