Today we're telling you about the time the King of Morocco

sent hundreds of thousands of his subjects into the Spanish Sahara.

It became known as the Green March.

In 2013, Simon Watts spoke to Maninu Sadik, a Moroccan journalist who took part.

It's the 6th of November 1975.

On the orders of King Hassan II,

thousands of Moroccan have gathered on the border between Morocco and a disputed region in the Sahara Desert, then controlled by Spain. What is there is a addressing the nation

nation King Hassan tells his subjects to trust in Allah and begin what he calls a

green march in honor of the color of Islam. He orders them to enter unarmed
