Summary

Join me every Monday for a quick burst of inspiration on our “Monday Moment” segments.

This time of year often creates stress and disappointment for so many. We're focused on the stuff -- parties, food, presents -- and missing out on the things that really matter.  The true joy, peace, and love that are often born in the least likely of places.

This Christmas week, I challenge you to take pause. Take time to celebrate the amazing gifts of your life. It’s the greatest gift you’ll ever open: that regardless of what you encounter today or face tomorrow, there is reason to rejoice, celebrate and sing out. [Tweet this.]

I wish each of you a healthy and happy holiday, a very merry Christmas and a joy-filled New Year. The best is yet to come.

We create these to help start your week on fire with a quick burst of inspiration.

Almost 10 years ago, on December 23rd, I was doing what many

0:23.9

procrastinators are doing on December 23rd. You ready for it? Shopping. That's right. I'm at the mall

0:30.3

shopping for my family last minute gifts, presents, that kind of stuff. Christmas music was playing,

0:39.5

Santa was in the foyer, and the mall was bustling. Apparently, I wasn't the only one who had waited. Well, while in line to

checkout, the woman in front of me turned around to witness an overmatched dad trying to

0:52.1

corral his three young sons. She looked at me pleasantly and said,

0:57.7

Oh, don't worry. In a couple of years, they'll get it. They'll get it. I smiled and I looked at my

1:05.7

wide-eyed little guys. I looked at their innocence, their sweetness, their unbridled energy.

1:11.3

They were probably five, three, and one at the time. It was impossible to imagine being more on fire with hope and joy

in real life than those little boys. I looked back at her and said to this lady, thank you.

1:27.0

And then I said, you're probably right.

1:29.1

But sometimes I think they might actually get it better than the rest of us do.

1:34.4

My friends, so frequently this time of year, we race from store to store and from party to party.

1:41.5

We tear open present after present.

1:43.9

We often, I think, give out of a concern that

1:47.2

someone else might be bringing us something. We don't want to get caught empty-handed, do we?

1:52.4

So what does it mean to really get it this season? Recently, a friend shared a story that

1:58.1

revealed to me the answer to this question. A few years ago,

2:02.3

Matt spent the majority of his Christmas Eve, not shopping, but taking his father to an oncology

appointment. The news they received was not at all what they'd been hoping for. As they left,
