Welcome to Four Finger Discount, where this week we are reviewing episode three of season 21. It is The Great Wifope. I'm Dando. And I am Guy. Yes, welcome to the podcast that never taps out. It never does indeed. We felt like it from time to time. Oh, yeah. It is... The podcast world can be hard. Relatively early on a Wednesday morning. Actually, no, I'm feeling, I'm feeling pumped. I feel it's super nacho Tuesday, even though it's a Wednesday. I was telling you yesterday, I'm like eating better and exercising more and just getting extra sleep. But I was saying to you, the big thing for me was I was drinking too much Pepsi Max. And even though it's no sugar Pepsi Max, it's still syrup in water. Oh, of course. It's still, it's not good for you. So now I'm just drinking a lot more water and it's like, oh shit, whatever, everything they always said to you. Good foods, healthy diet and water. Unfortunately, you do have to maintain that for an ongoing kind of period for it to actually, you know, have those positive effects. But, you know, but we're getting there. Baby steps. Of course. Of course. Of course. I mean, I've said this to you many times. I mean, I relapse all the time. But every once in a while I sort of go on a bit of a kick like, oh, yeah, eating better, moving the body, hydrating. Wow, they actually do work.

It's just when I was a teen, like say,

late teens, early 20s, UFC was a big deal. And when this episode aired back in 2009, I was a big MMA fan from, say, 07 to 0 to maybe 11. That's when I was a really big right into MMA. It's when it was really starting to hit its peak. And I thought this episode did a good job of doing satire on UFC or MMA in general, but also it wasn't quite realistic.

Not the satire should be realistic, but I watched and enjoyed it.

And then I read what Dana White, the owner of UFC, said or the CEO.

Did you read what he said on Wikipedia, why he didn't like it? So he wrote, well, he said, the president of ultimate fighting championship, he told reporters that he, when the episode aired, that he did not like the episode, he added, people like the MMA media, always try to tell me what that, we're mainstream. Did you see that Simpson's episode?

Chuck Liddell, who's in the episode, he was a big star at the time. He signs an autograph for somebody and he says, that'll be $45, he actually says $25. That'll be $45, please. The sport isn't like that at all. Then the promoter of the show fights Marge Simpson in the octagon, sucker punches her in the face and then says, you're the only woman I've ever hit that I didn't love.

That's the way mainstream looks at us and thinks of us and you know that. It's got a good point. Because I know the, you know, the being the women side of things, it's like, that's one story. But just the whole, the promoter getting into the octagon to fight Marge, that's more pro wrestling and i did read that that it was more of a portrayal of vince mcmann as opposed to dana white so i think

they kind of got the world's a bit blurred there it does sound that way now i think there was probably

a bit of a conflation of all those things yeah i'm saying i think any sort of context sport any

any violent context sport, which generally

regarded as, you know, all of one piece, whether it was boxing, wrestling or, or MMA, even

though the three things are sort of completely different, and seem to have completely different

cultures in a lot of ways. So, yeah, look, White's got a point, I guess. It's a lot different now,
