Welcome everyone, Lauslo Montgomery here with another CHP special episode.

I cordially thank you all for tuning in. This time I've invited Mr. William Lindsay onto the

program and if there are any foreigners besides William Lindsay who have spent more time studying,

researching and climbing the Great Wall, I don't know who that might be.

William has published eight or nine books about the Great Wall including a couple new ones

out on Earnshaw books called Wild Wall, The Foundation Years, and Wild Wall The Genco Years.

And so many of the articles written about William Lindsay's described as an author, runner,

and conservationist. He's a longtime resident of Beijing, been there since the mid-80s.

If you ever attended a lecture or read any of his books,

William Lindsay is an acknowledged expert on the subject of the Great Wall, an object that his

fascinated people all over the world from the time they first laid eyes on it and we're going

to discuss all that today. Mr. William Lindsay, welcome to the China History Podcast.

The pleasure is really all mine. So William, let me ask, what's occupying your

Great Wall life and thoughts these days? This year, your 35th year there for the wall?

Yeah, it seems I'm celebrating anniversaries quite regularly now and this year is my

35th anniversary of finishing the journey along the wall that really laid the foundation for my

future in China for the purpose of getting to know the Great Wall better. So 35 is a big year,

you know, because you kind of start to wonder, am I going to make my 40th?

And should I go on a big journey along the wall to celebrate?

Actually, I'm happy to report that just as the Great Wall was a generation to generation

project during many dynasties. In my family, there is a condition that we regularly refer to as
