and conservationist. He's a longtime resident of Beijing, been there since the mid-80s.

Great Wall life and thoughts these days? This year, your 35th year there for the wall?

Yeah, it seems I'm celebrating anniversaries quite regularly now and this year is my

35th anniversary of finishing the journey along the wall that really laid the foundation for my

future in China for the purpose of getting to know the Great Wall better. So 35 is a big year,

you know, because you kind of start to wonder, am I going to make my 40th?

And should I go on a big journey along the wall to celebrate?

Actually, I'm happy to report that just as the Great Wall was a generation to generation
