I recently took a drive to Iola, Kansas, to visit the Sleeper Mortuary, a building that stands frozen in time, untouched since its days as a funeral home. Paranormal investigator, author and owner of the Sleeper Mortuary, Tory Westhoff knew from the moment she stepped inside, the building had chosen her as much as she had chosen it. We discussed the haunted history of Sleeper Mortuary, where ghostly encounters, hidden artifacts, and eerie phenomena paint a picture of a place where the past is very much alive. 0:09.9	As far as buying the building, and you had an experience right off the bat, did you come in and investigate first or were even able to?
0:20.0	We weren't really able to. They're like we wanted to.
0:25.9	Right. We weren't able to. So like I was basically going off of faith and that alone. But you did get that one
0:35.7	experience. So you knew something. And everybody had the experience. It was that profound. And of course get that one experience. That one experience.
0:55.1	And everybody had the experience. It was that profound. And of course, like when I place an offer, I'm like, what if it's not haunted? What if I just made that up in my house? Which is so funny to me because when I bought my house, I remember being at the closing going, what if it is haunted? I don't want to buy haunted. You're closing going, God, I hope this is haunted.
0:56.0	Yeah, yeah.
0:55.1	And I will tell you, is haunted. I don't want to buy a hound house. You're closing going, God, I hope this is haunted.
1:03.8	Yeah, yeah. And I will tell you that I don't believe that it's ever been investigated prior to my owning it. I can also tell you that all of the other businesses that were in here only lasted maybe six months at the longest.
1:13.2	The basket store lasted less than a month in this building.
1:17.4	It was a host of things throughout the time.
1:21.2	Now, I think the two longest people here after it closed was the owner that I bought it from he lived here for just shy of 10 years
1:29.5	and then prior to that there was I think a law office but I don't think that it was downstairs
1:36.8	I think it was up here did you ask the previous owner if he'd had experiences I did and did he
1:43.2	have he does okay so And did he have? He does.
1:44.7	Okay, so he did.
1:46.0	He never, um, it wasn't anything that he viewed as like scary or he said he had one experience here that kind of rattled him.
1:58.8	And he was working on the fireplace down in a small living
2:02.1	room and he never saw anything he never heard anything but it was just a feeling he started
2:08.3	getting sweaty and sick feeling and he's like i got to get out of here and he did and it resolved
2:16.4	now was it paranormal i don't know um he certainly views
2:20.6	it that way and like i said what i think if he thinks that's what happened yeah like the paranormal
