| 0:50.4 | So there's a natural tendency at this stage of the contest to focus and talk a lot about |
| 1:00.9 | the donor class for three reasons, actually one, people with billions of dollars hold an |
| 1:08.8 | outsized place in journalist minds, say, just like, wow, there's a billionaires at |
| 1:14.2 | very big deal. |
| 1:15.2 | I'll write about them to the political class, which is composed of candidates and consultants |
| 1:22.6 | and office holders and media people and just other people involved in the big business |
| 1:28.9 | of politics, that the political class sees money as an important measure of a candidate's |
| 1:37.8 | viability. |
| 1:38.8 | Got to raise a lot of money, big, important candidate, hadn't raised much money, loser. |
| 1:44.8 | Third reason, if candidates kiss up to billionaires, candidates kiss up to billionaires and |
| 1:52.5 | lavish attention on them, and that gets them into stories. |
| 2:00.5 | And actually there's a fourth reason too. |
| 2:02.8 | It's the most important reason. |
