I'm going to tell you a story that sounds a little bit like a nursery rhyme and a little bit like a

gritty hard-boiled crime drama. Let me explain. One day in 1987 in the small

town of Hastings Nebraska a baby was. A baby goose named Andy.

Andy was adorable and there was something particularly unique about him.

The goose had hatched without webbed feet and so I had like knobs on the bottom of his legs.

Yes, Andy was born without webbed feet. Instead, Andy had just little stumps on the end of his legs, and so he had trouble getting around.

But soon a man named Gene Fleming went to see this goose.

His sister-in-law owned the farm.

He had gone out there to pick up some ducks

and had seen this goose trying to cross a road

and it kept falling over. He went home still thinking about that goose and he didn't have much else going on at the time, apparently, and he decided that my gosh he was gonna, he's gonna try to help that goose and help it to walk.

It so happened that Gene was an inventor.

Before meeting Andy, Gene had made quite a bit of money, inventing what was basically a giant flyswater

for cows.

We don't need to give to the details.

Anyway, Gene had a lot of other stuff lying around his house and he liked to tinker and invent things.

So this seemed like a pretty good challenge.

Basically he wound up just popping on a pair of baby shoes

and then realizing, oh yeah, well, I probably should

give him a better fit.

So he like modified the inside of it. And then he's like, well, if he gets in the water, they better drain, right?

So he like put drain holes in it, then it worked.
