Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for,

especially for the healing of Olivia and Margo through the intercession of Blessed Pauline Jericho.

Today our meditation is on the Parable of the Good Samaritan.

Now the setting for the parable is the road that goes from Jerusalem to Jericho,

a road surrounded for 26 miles by nothing but desert, ravines, rocks, crevices. It's completely deserted, and it's a perfect

place to get mugged. I just drove it today, but it's too hot to record out there, so now I'm sitting

on my balcony with a cool breeze blowing over Jerusalem.

Now we all know the story of the Good Samaritan, and we know that it's supposed to have a very basic moral.

Do good to people even when they don't seem to be your responsibility.

Even when you don't owe them anything or when it's someone from a group that considers

you an enemy, be generous to them and take care of them.

That's what a true neighbor does.

And that's a true interpretation of the story.

But we have to ask, who shows this trait the most?

Who is the most selfless?

The most merciful.

The person who always takes the initiative for those in need.

Well, God, of course.
