For a person with a severe mental illness, their family is often a very important part of the care and support that they require and paradoxically that also places them at increased risk of being the victims of violence. Have you ever wondered what happens in a secure forensic mental health hospital.

I certainly have.

We see the headlines when someone is arrested and charged for murder, assault or rape, and

sometimes it's decided that they are unfit to stand trial.

What does this mean when someone has a defensive mental impairment?

How will they face the consequences of what they've done?

clinical services at forensic care joins Australian True Crime to talk about what happens

at Thomas Embling Hospital, a forensic mental health facility in Melbourne and how people end up there.

Well I trained as a psychiatrist in Melbourne. I work for forensic care which is also known as the Victorian Institute of Forensic

Mental Health and that's a statewide state-run authority which provides mental health services to prisons and the justice system.
