0:41.4	Today's main story, a vaccine surge is on the way, as drug makers ratchet up their production
0:47.7	and more facilities become equipped to provide the drugs to U.S. communities.
0:55.2	But first, here's what happened in virus news today.
1:06.0	Pfizer and Bio-Ntech asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for permission to store their vaccine at lower
1:13.2	temperatures. That would allow the drug to be stored for two weeks in the type of freezers
1:18.8	pharmacies use. Making storage easier in this way could simplify distribution of the shot.
1:27.0	The partner submitted new data showing the vaccine is stable
1:31.2	when it is stored at minus 25 to minus 15 degrees Celsius.
1:37.4	Current protocol is to store the vaccine for up to six months
1:41.0	in an ultra-cold freezer at temperatures up to negative 60 degrees Celsius,
1:46.6	and to ship them in a special thermal container. This limits the number of facilities that have
1:53.6	the equipment needed to store and administer the vaccine. The European Union plans to double its cash commitment for the COVAX program,
2:04.8	according to an EU official familiar with the matter.
2:08.7	The bloc will now contribute 1 billion euros to the program,
2:12.9	which provides vaccines to poorer nations.
2:16.5	G7 nations, including the U.S., the U.K., and France,
