All of God's longings come from fullness.

There is no void in God's being.

He is fullness. He is sufficiency.

He is not emptiness. He has no deficiency.

That's what it means to be God.

That's the definition of God. When I want something, it's usually

because I don't have it. That's just how we as humans work. But God doesn't need anything. He doesn't

love us in order to get something from us. He loves us always from his fullness.

This talk was originally delivered at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Wednesday evening,

September 18th, 1991. Before we pray to ask the Lord's help and blessing, question number one on

tonight's lesson chapter two, the pleasure of God in all that

he does, is a summary of what the book is all about, the pleasures of God, and I think it would

be helpful to walk through the answer to question number one and then pray. The question is the first paragraph on

page 47 gives another summary of the goal of why I wrote this book, like the one on page 18.

State the five steps in this goal. So let me summarize them for you and then we'll pray that God will make

them a reality. Step number one, my goal is to direct the attention of more and more people

to the pleasures of God revealed in Scripture, hence the chapter,

the chapters and the book.
