Now, how are your nerves?

Shredded by all the talk of crashing out and cliff edges,

empty shelves and queues that the border and shortages of medicines?

Or are you reassured by the Prime Minister's words this week?

The talks are at a crucial stage,

and we now all need to hold on to get the changes.

This house requires and deliver Brexit on time.

When I heard the Prime Minister urging us all to hold on nerve,

I realised that the problem she's got

is if that's your appeal,

people have got to trust two things,

your judgement and your motives.

And on different sides of the Brexit debate,

whether here or in the EU,

increasingly, people trust neither.

It was the election that damaged faith in her judgement amongst Tory MPs.

It is the failure to deliver a stable majority,

which has damaged it amongst EU leaders and in Brussels.

But it is perhaps motive that is more damaging for her.
