The sound last heard from a radio station that has broadcast to the world uninterrupted for 83 years.

The Voice of America went silent on the 16th of March after President Trump's administration imposed funding cuts

on the U.S. Agency for Global Media.

By closing down Radio Liberty,

you're kind of giving a victory on a platter to the opponents of

pre-media.

And on top of that, defunding the main US overseas aid agency meant cutting the lifeline for

independent journalism in many places, including war-torn Ukraine.

Independent media that were funded through USAID were very crucial when it comes to impartial reporting.
