My mother's name was Elizabeth Johnson. I should start with her. Though as I learned,

this all started long before. She was a photographer, wedding,

and a few years later, she was a child of a family. She was a child of a family.

When I think about my mother, the first thing I remember are her eyes. The second thing I remember

are her photos, littered around her house, around her lives. They defined my childhood. They were

what connected us, bonded us. And with a father I never met, no other family. I needed all the

connections I could get. It was my mom and me against the world. Then I met Katie, the little girl

down the street. Who are you? I'm Katie. I just moved in down the street. Do you want to play?

I'm Felicia. How did you get in my backyard? I climbed the fence. Will you play with me?
