Well, hello, my friends, and welcome to the live-inspired podcast Monday Morning Moments with John O'Leary.

We're going to begin this episode by saying

that 13 years ago, I was invited to visit a critically ill man in a hospital. All I knew was where the

hospital was. I knew his room number, and I knew that his first name was David and then he was dying.

What happened during that visit and over the years since impacted my life profoundly.

And in hearing about this story today, it is my hope that it positively impacts your life too.

As a kid who spent months in the hospital, I recognize how visitors and their encouragement can make a mighty difference in recovery.

A family member can provide a sense of normalcy in the midst of a storm.

A friend can provide the spark of humor that cuts through pain.

And a visit from an outsider can shine hope that pierces the darkness of despair.

It's why when given an opportunity to visit a friend in a hospital,

even when it's someone that I've never even previously met,

I strive to go.

And yet each time I walk into a hospital, onto the elevator,

and into a room, in particular when it's a room of someone that I'm meeting for the very first time,

I am riddled with anxiety.

What should I say?

What should the tone be?

How long should I stay?

Will they even want a visitor?

Am I wasting my time?

Am I wasting their time?
