Start, shall we, with a little bit of gratitude for making that decision on a Monday morning.

We're going to start very much in the deep end today with a conversation about a British

engagement, a British bombing campaign or a British backed bombing campaign in the Middle East.

I don't know that there is any issue really before us where this sort of modern demand for

strong opinions is potentially more dangerous than it is on this one.

I think many of us should be a little more haunted, perhaps,

by some of the unquestioning support that was offered up for Tony Blair's mission in Iraq.

Tony Blair, in the news today, adjacent to the news today,

because of this curious poll conducted by the

Tady Telegraph confirming the, or endorsing, enforcing the, very widespread perception that the Tory

party is heading for a sort of form of electoral oblivion comparable to the one it suffered when

Tony Blair was elected Prime Minister. I say it's a curious

poll because I'll share my thoughts on that with you later. But the idea that I think it's

quite hard to resist sometimes, a position that is not defined by the facts. I think that there are two people possessed of strong opinions when it comes to military

engagement in general and in the Middle East in particular.

There are people who believe that our side must always be right and that is a healthy

position to have in many ways.

And there are people who believe that our side must always be wrong and that is a healthy position to have in many ways. And there are people who believe that our side must always be wrong.

And that is a healthy position to have in many ways.
