Summary

It's Star Wars Celebration week, folks! The annual Jabba-and-Jawas jamboree is coming to London this year, and that is all the excuse that Connor Ratliff, Griffin Newman and Patrick Cotnoir needed to bring their runaway hit, The George Lucas Talk Show, to the Soho Theatre for a couple of shows on Friday April 7th and Saturday April 8th. If you're unfamiliar, it's an improvised spoof chat show in which Ratliff plays Retired Filmmaker George Lucas (yes, that George Lucas) and Newman plays his sidekick Watto (yes, that Watto), interviewing real guests about Star Wars and other animals. Our Chris Hewitt is a huge fan, and he jumped at the chance to talk to the trio about the show's origins, how it transformed during the pandemic, and what they have in store for London audiences. Enjoy.

GLTS, as I'm going to call it, began life as a regular show that you could only see in

That's where I saw it in December 2019 and I was instantly won over by its oddball combination

of utter deep cut hardcore geekery seat of the pants improvisational comedy and genuinely

1:08.8

good interviews with genuinely interesting if somewhat befuddled guests.

1:14.3

When the pandemic hit in early 2020, the show was recalibrated somewhat and started living

1:20.0

life online in a series of epic shows that have garnered it an army of fans and a series

1:26.8

of high profile guests, one of which Rachel Seglier who takes both boxes co-hosted the

recent Oscars live show all five hours of it.

In fact, Rachel Seglier and I briefly discussed her love of the George Lucas talk show when

she appeared on the Empire podcast a few weeks ago and in the aftermath of that, a connection

was forged between me and the guys behind the talk show, which is why you're about
