Hi and hello from summer. It is summer where I'm recording this. It's probably summer where you're listening to this unless you're in this other hemisphere. And it's been summer for a few weeks. This is not news. But I am going to be reinstating something I've done on summers. I'm going to be reinstating something I did with this podcast in summer's previous, where we do summer reruns, which is not just a means of putting something in a feed so we get

listens on what would otherwise be a quiet period. But also, it's my way of resubmitting

things to you that maybe didn't get enough attention the first time through. Usually,

it's my fault, if I'm being honest. In the case of this episode, it's definitely my fault. This is our

Mama's Family episode. Glenn and I both care about Mama's Family a lot, perhaps more than most

of our listeners do. And selling people on wanting to hear the history of Mama's Family is maybe

tough. I don't know. I would hope that you have faith in us to do something interesting with

even a show you may not necessarily care about. But in this case, there's a lot of really good gay history. And I feel like people did not listen to this episode the first time because I titled it, Mama's Family Never Did a Gay episode, which is technically true. But I guess when I title something X never did a gay episode, people will think like, oh, that I don't have to listen to it. But I like to point out, we still talk about gay stuff.

Like, just because we're talking about the glaring lack of a gay episode doesn't mean we're just talking about straight people stuff for the entire thing.

We do talk about gay representation and what it means to not have real gay representation on a popular show.

And that's the case here.

But it's especially interesting that Mom and's Family did this in contrast to its gay history

and the story of Dick Clare and how a gay man helped invent Mama's Family.
