Summary

Jamie Gorelick, former Deputy Attorney General of the United States, and Michael Zeldin, former DOJ Special Council join Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman on "Skullduggery." First, Gorelick gives us an in depth look into what we can expect from President-elect Biden's Attorney General pick Merrick Garland. Then, Zeldin weighs in on how logical and legal impeaching Trump for a second time would be. And is invoking the 25th Amendment a true possibility as well?

As everyone who watched yesterday's events in Washington now understands, if they did

0:08.6

not understand before, the rule of law is not just some lawyer's turn of phrase. It is

0:16.9

the very foundation of our democracy. The essence of the rule of law is that like cases

0:26.2

are treated alike. If there not be one rule for Democrats and another for Republicans,

0:33.6

one rule for friends, another for foes, one rule for the powerful, another for the powerless,

0:42.0

one rule for the rich, and another for the poor, or different rules depending upon one's race

Department of Justice when he is confirmed as almost everybody in Washington expects as the

country's next Attorney General. Those principles might sound like stock platitudes that virtually

1:07.2

any Attorney General would echo, but they have been sorely tested during the Trump era as William

1:13.0

Barr repeatedly involved himself in criminal prosecutions and charging decisions that almost

1:18.7

always seem to benefit the Confederates and cronies of the President of the United States.

1:23.9

And Garland would seem the perfect antidote to the conduct of Barr, a former federal prosecutor,

1:30.0

a senior official in Bill Clinton's Justice Department, and a federal court of appeals judge,

1:35.6

almost universally respected for his thoughtful demeanor and judicial temperament.

1:40.7

We'll talk to one of his oldest friends and former colleagues, former Deputy Attorney General Jamie

1:45.6

Grellick, and then we'll get a reality check on the prospects that the Garland Justice Department

1:51.0

might investigate and even prosecute Donald Trump on this episode of Skull Duggery.

2:03.1

Because people have got to know whether or not they're President or Sucruk, well I'm not a crook.

2:07.1

I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostage. My heart and my best intentions

2:12.4

still tell me that's true, but the facts and the evidence tell me it is not. I did not have

sexual relations with that woman. There will be no lies. We will honor the American people
