Summary

A large amount of recent political conversations and polls are consumed by who could be in the 2024 presidential race. Is Donald Trump considering a third run for the White House? Does Joe Biden plan on running for reelection? And what happens if both of them opt out? Will a new candidate continue the policy's of their party's predecessor? It's all fine to think about, as long as this infamous rivalry doesn't overshadow another year of our politics.

Hello and welcome to another edition of the Byron New York Show, the No Chip Chat Podcast.

We like to get right into it and we're going to talk about a couple of things today.

0:15.8

I'm going to talk about the vaccine effort and what some scientists are urging Joe Biden

0:24.1

to do as far as the vaccine effort is concerned.

0:28.0

I'll give you a quick little hint. They're urging him to be more like Donald Trump,

0:32.2

which is going to make some heads explode. But first, I want to talk about a new poll just saw

0:38.3

just a really a few minutes ago. It's really kind of extraordinary for one big reason. It's

0:46.7

the new Wall Street Journal poll. They changed pollsters not too long ago.

0:53.2

And it has some of the standard questions that we've been seeing all along. For example,

1:01.7

it has Joe Biden's job approval rating falling. No surprise there has him at 41% approved versus

1:09.7

57% disapproved. I mean, Joe Biden is getting deeper and deeper underwater. So that's interesting.

1:19.4

But the thing that I thought was the most interesting is a particular question that it asked

1:27.0

about Joe Biden and about Donald Trump. Now, in the background of the question is,

1:33.6

there is so much uncertainty surrounding the 2024 presidential race that it is not clear,

1:41.2

as we speak, whether the incumbent president Joe Biden who is currently less than a year into

1:46.5

office, just office, it is not clear that he will run for reelection. It's also not clear whether

1:54.1

the former president Donald Trump will make a third, not one, not two, but three, the third run

2:00.3

for the White House. So this new question I'm talking about in the Wall Street Journal poll

2:06.0

tries to get at the issue of a Biden Trump matchup without exactly being a Biden Trump

2:14.6

matchup. Now they did ask the matchup question. They said if the election were today or between

2:18.8

Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who would you vote for? And it was virtually even 46% for Biden,

2:24.9

45% for Trump. So a tie there. But what if the race turns out to be not Joe Biden who'd be 82
