On the February 3, 2023 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editorial director Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film writer Ryan Scott to discuss the latest film and tv news, including how the future of streaming is changing fast, as well as Hit-Monkey and Ant-Man.

Opening Banter: Knock at the cabin?

In The News:

  • Ryan: Hit-Monkey Gets A Second Season From Hulu, But Without The Marvel Branding
  • Peter (og Valerie): Cool Stuff: Ant-Man Wrote A Memoir (Yes, Really) And You Can Pre-Order It Now
  • "Look Out For The Little Guy”
  • 256-page book
  • $26.99
  • Comes out in september, months after Quantumania
  • What other fictional books from movies do you wish were real?
  • Peter (og Lex): Peacock's Free Subscription Tier Is Going Away With A Pivot To Premium Content
  • Free tier is not available for new users but they will not remove the feature for those who are already subscribed.
  • The move is "part of Peacock's growth strategy," which includes a shift to a $5 Premium membership that offers a larger catalog of content.
  • Premium Plus tier for $10 comes offline downloading.
  • Is freemium over? Or does the free tier option just make the content feel cheap?
  • Mid-Roll Sponsor break: “we’re going to take a quick break, and we’ll be right back”
  • Peter (og Erin): Here's How Netflix Will Try To Keep You From Sharing The Password To Your Account
  • mandating that each device with a specific login be connected to the same WiFi network at least once every month.
  • This network will be considered the primary network for every account and profile, and those that do not connect through this network will be forced to sign up for an individual account.
  • "When a device outside of your household signs in to an account or is used persistently," says the streamer's help center, "we may ask you to verify that device before it can be used to watch Netflix or switch your Netflix household."
  • To verify a device: Netflix sends a link to the email address or phone number associated with the primary account owner, The link opens a page with a 4-digit verification code. The code needs to be entered on the device that requested it within 15 minutes. If the code expired, you will need to request a new verification code from the device. Once successful, that device can be used to watch Netflix. Device verification may be required periodically.
  • Is it a mistake not to offer a tier for an extended family?
  • Peter (og Valerie): Showtime Has A Stupid New Name, And They've Canceled A Handful Of Shows Too
  • "Paramount+ with Showtime"
  • Thoughts on the new name?
  • the merger will likely result in layoffs and programming shake-ups
  • three Showtime series — "Let The Right One In," "Three Women," and "American Gigolo" — have already been canceled with the showrunners shopping around for new homes.
  • The memo obtained by The Hollywood Reporter comes via Paramount CEO Bob Bakish: "This new combined offering demonstrates how we can leverage our entire collection of content to drive deeper connections with consumers and greater value for our distribution partners.”
  • The "full integration" of Showtime and Paramount+ will take place later this year, and will also impact the premium tier of Paramount+, which will share the new title along with Showtime programming options.
  • Chris McCarthy, President and CEO of Showtime and Paramount Media Networks, writes in another memo that the company will stop investing in projects that "are underperforming and that account for less than 10% of our views.
  • Seems to me like streaming will have to be alot more data based

0:40.8

M. Chamelon has made some really bad movies, and he knows that. He had a pretty bad run there,

0:46.0

but I think ever since the visit, which came out in 2015, he, you know, he's kept things like smaller and he's made a lot of very interesting movies since then.

I think Dave Batista gives, and I'm not kidding an Oscar-worthy performance in there, at least worthy of a nomination.

1:18.0

I mean, he might be my favorite actor working today, which is crazy to say, but yeah, very good performance-driven movie and I and I it worked for me so you know for anyone thinking about maybe maybe going to see something that is an avatar this weekend
