Summary

Happy holidays! As our team takes some time away for a break, we're re-sharing part of our "Future of" miniseries that originally aired in March 2022. From the original description: The ways we consume media have changed tremendously over the last decade. Shows with live audiences, perhaps more than any other type of program, had to pivot virtually almost overnight when the pandemic started. That certainly was the case with “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” As viewers have more sources for entertainment now than ever before, the show had to find creative ways to keep fans engaged and entertained. Lucky for us, Seth Meyers, the affable host of the show bearing his name, joins to discuss what he thinks about the future of entertainment and comedy, why he felt closer to the audience while hosting from home and more. Hey there, it's Chris Hayes, your host here at Wise is happening. I hope you are taking some time to relax, rest, and be with loved ones as 2023 comes to an end. We're doing the same for a little bit as our team steps back on a break. We're re-sharing a portion of the episodes from our future of series. Back when we did this, the series was kind of a way for us to kind of take stock of

0:21.7

where we were coming out of the pandemic and what we were going into. And I think it's a useful

0:27.4

thing to reflect back on this winter. So sit back and enjoy. Happy holidays. Happy listening.

First up is the future of entertainment with the one and only Seth Myers. This episode was first released in March of 2022.

There was a whole year where we were putting in punchlines about the Mets because it worked with the nine Mets fans who were running cables and working cameras and the security

guards. And I think that the audience at home, even for people in Europe who don't get Mets jokes,

1:03.0

they got that the joke wasn't the Mets joke. The joke was that I was a comedian who was

1:08.3

pandering to the only nine people in the room. Right.

1:15.3

And the show just took on a new dimension because of that.

Hello and welcome to Why Is This Happening with me, your host, Cressays. A really big day today.

1:29.1

We're excited to launch our first ever kind of thematic miniseries,

1:33.2

a special four-part mini-series we're calling The Future of.

1:37.0

And the idea of it goes like this.

1:40.5

For me, I have found it increasingly difficult to think about the future in a way that doesn't feel bleak.

1:51.5

I'm laughing because that's my coping mechanism for that fact, but it's been kind of a rough few years.

1:57.6

I'm speaking to you right now as there's a land war on Europe following the

2:01.5

once in a century pandemic and American democracy under assault and the IPCC report issuing

2:07.7

increasingly frenetic and dire warnings about our climate future. And so it's very easy to get into

2:13.7

a sort of dystopic frame of mind. But I also think that dystopia is enervating. I think that dystopia makes us feel hopeless and glum and like we can't build a better world. And I think that we can build a better world. And I think even if we can't build a better world, we should think about how we would build a better world because that's the only way we retain a possibility of building a better world. So let's think about what a better

2:35.7

future would look like. And we've got answers to that question and more with this really

2:38.7

sort of interesting and eclectic line of the guests, including Kathy Wood, who's founder, CEO,

2:43.2

and CIO of Arc Invest, authors and podcasters, Anne Freeman and Aminatu, so. And Jonah Goldman,
