Now Mark, you've been down to the European Space Agency's press conference today

where they've revealed what their plank probe mission has been revealing about the

early universe.

Yeah, that's right.

So the Plank Space Telescope has given us the most detailed map yet

of the cosmic microwave background. That's the residual glow from the big bang that

started it all off, the beginning of the universe. Tell us a bit about the history of the

mission. Okay so it was launched in 2009, and it actually builds on previous efforts to measure the

cosmic microwave background radiation, and it's out there in space about four times as far away from the Earth as the Moon,
