I just felt we would be totally derailed by this experience.

We didn't have any money and we were struggling through college and it was impossible.

56 years ago, Cheryl Bryant found herself in a difficult situation.

I just couldn't believe that I was in this predicament.

The 22-year-old and her boyfriend, Clifton Palmer, were in college when they learned that Cheryl was pregnant.

Poor and with their futures on the line, they landed on a way out.

An abortion.

I was getting more and more desperate.

And this doctor probably saved my life.

But abortion in California in the 1960s was illegal.

Cheryl's procedure led to the arrest of a doctor

and eventually a legal fight that paved the way for Roe v. Wade.

And I was able to read the case, and that really was exciting because I thought that we could

challenge it on the basis of the right to privacy.

But now that Roe is gone, is that history?

Our future?
