From the outset of the COVID pandemic, few voices have been more trusted than Dr. Anthony Fauci,

the US government's top expert on infectious diseases.

But lately, Dr. Fauci has become a subject of controversy, derided by White House officials,

even as the Trump campaign uses a clip of him in a TV ad.

views on a push by some inside the administration to promote herd immunity as the solution.
