sitting in my cozy recliner and I find it rather difficult to get through editing these

stories without falling asleep. Hopefully they have the same effect on you. Enjoy!

Way out in the countryside where there is nothing to see for miles,

except cows grazing in the fields and deer leaping through the meadows.

And small propeller planes weaving back and forth above the corn fields.

Out there where neighbors live five miles apart and there's no such thing as traffic,

there is a fruit stand on the side of the road. The fruit stand is the best place to go for

peaches that taste like the sunrise, blueberries that have that perfect balance of tart and sweet.

In the height of summer when the air is thick with water and the sun is a heat lamp in the cloudless

sky, the fruit stand is a beacon in the distance. Cars do not stop in town,

there barely is a town at all. There is nothing except corn and wheat and cows and windmills

and the fruit stand. No one stops in town but plenty stop at the fruit stand. They climb down from

their pickups, park their station wagons, occasionally an RV rumbles to a stop,

taking up all three parking spots. They always buy something. How could they not?

They've been driving for hours, heading west towards the mountains or east towards the coast.
