Today we'll hear from Emmanuel Ferat, senior international affairs officer of the French anti-corruption agency, or AFA.

Emmanuel will discuss Saperne De and the AFA's role in vetting the mandatory implementation

of corporate compliance programs in order to prevent bribery and increase transparency in France.

Indeed, I think that things have quite significantly improved over the last few years.

And there are at least two dates that are worth being mentioned. I would start with 2014 with the creation of a national prosecution office

specializing on financial related cases, including of course bribery, not only,

but including bribery and corruption-related offenses

This national office has a national jurisdiction over these cases and of course it made I think a difference in the enforcement of the criminal aspects of the law

The second milestone is definitely the law sapant two which has has already been mentioned previously, so it has been

adopted in the end of the year 2016, and it modernizes the criminal justice instruments

available for practitioners on the one hand, but it also introduces a new preventive

approach, a preventive pillar in the anti-corruption legal framework

in France.

And these are no two main ways, means through which the anti-corruption law is enforced,

and I'll be quickly presenting on these two aspects, so the preventive pillar on the one hand

and the criminal justice response on the other. As to the preventive pillar in the French legal system, this is definitely one of the

major inputs coming from the Los Sapins 2, and it makes it, as you know, now mandatory, so it makes

a legal obligation for the public and the private sector in general.
