Summary

Retired Intelligence Detective Gary Jenkins examines John Gotti’s first RICO trial to determine why the jury failed to convict him. We learn about the four mistakes made by the prosecution team of Diane Giacalone and John Gleeson. The first was the attempt to force Wilfred “Willie Boy” Johnson to testify by exposing him as a long-time FBI Top Echelon Informant. Willie Boy replied, “I can’t testify against John. He is my friend.” Diane Giacalone was long on trial experience but short on facing the likes of Bruce Cutler. The defense took one of the government’s former informants and turned him on to the prosecutors. Matt Traynor was a bank robber, and when the government refused to pay him for his testimony against Gotti, he testified that Ms. Giacalone had tried to bribe him and offered him her panties as an enticement to help. The defense also got Traynor to claim that John Gleeson’s wife had obtained a narcotic drug from her work at a hospital, and Mr. Gleeson had given it to him in jail. 1:20.2	a Teflon Dahn. In 1987, in the Eastern District of New York, they launched a racketeering case
1:27.1	called the Delacroche prosecution because called the Delacroche prosecution.
1:29.9	Because Neil Delacroche was the underboss, and he was like to target.
1:36.6	And under Delacroche was the Gotti crew.
1:40.2	So the Godi, John Gotti, his brother Gene and some other guys in the Gadi crew were part of this RICO racketeering prosecution case.
1:48.6	And there was a former tax prosecutor named Diane Jacqueloni, who was assigned the lead counsel.
1:56.1	She was from the neighborhood, from Ozone Park, kind of like Jenny from the hood. Well, she was
2:01.4	Diane from the hood. She grew up in Queens and went to Our Lady of Wisdom Academy and
2:09.3	walked by the Ravenite every once in a while, it's my understanding. This will come back and
2:14.8	later in this story about her as a young girl walking by the Ravenite.
2:19.3	But she was one most experienced trial lawyers in the Eastern District.
