Good morning and welcome to the football show. It is Tuesday. It's the 26th of May and of course

it's a date that will live long in the memory

for Manchester United and for Arsenal fans. We will be reminiscing about 1999 with Teddy

Sherringham and with members of that 1989 Arsenal side. We'll also be hearing from the former

Rangers and Everton boss, Walter Smith, all of which will be happening in the

company of Jamie Carriger and Graham Sooners. Let's talk about the WSL now, because while we're

still in a state of flux in terms of the Premier League moving forward, we certainly are in

terms of the championship, there have been decisions made in the WSL, but it's not completely decided yet. To give

us a bit more detail on that, we're joined now by Jessica Kreiton. Good morning, Jess. Can you just

tell us what's happened, what's been decided and what's yet to be sorted? Yes, morning, guys.

I think the news yesterday came from the FA is pretty significant because

it means now that all divisions in the women's game in England this season have now been

cancelled. So we got the news yesterday from the FA that the women's super league and the second

tier, the championship, the seasons would be ending with immediate effect. Now, this comes at a time when the

women's game is at its most high profile. We've seen that at the elite level in England,

with the Lionesses incredible run to the semi-finals of the World Cup, record TV viewing figures.

We've also seen it at the grassroots level as well, where participation has doubled in the last three years.

So this is particularly disappointing for the women's game, particularly when we already know

that the men's game, the men's top flight, will be resuming.
