born who would go on to commit a murder that, in the eyes of many, made both her and her sister

heroes. A case that to this day remains one that graces the pages of many history books.

Born in Le Mans France on March 8, 1905, Christine Pappin and her sister Leah, born September 15, 1911, came from a troubled

family where their mother, though having an affair with her employer, married her father

when they found out that she was pregnant with the girl's eldest sister.

Suspecting that she was still seeing the man, their father found a new job

in a new city and announced his plans to uproot the family. Their mother responded by telling him

that she would rather take her own life than leave Le Mans. The marriage began rapidly deteriorating,

and their father began drinking heavily.

Christine was then born and, described as lacking the nurture necessary to raise a child,

they found Clements unfit for motherhood and sent the new baby to go live with a paternal

aunt and uncle soon after her birth. Living there a total of

seven years, seven reportedly happy years, when her sister Leah was born in 1911, she too was given to a
