Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to episode three of the Flying V podcast.

I'm your host, Vincent Mercagliano of The Athletic, and here we are a few weeks into the season,

rolling along with the new podcast.

We have a special guest today, a guest who is coming on the show for the first time,

is maybe a new voice to Rangers fans, but certainly not a new voice in the hockey community.

I want to have him on to let you guys get to know him a little bit better since now he is

going to be a major part of Rangers coverage moving forward.

And that would be Dave Starman, who is the new radio analyst for the Rangers games on ESPN

radio. This guy got to know him a bit in the last few weeks, an absolute hockey lifer, a New York

native, played goalie for the University of Hartford, has coached and scouted

at various levels, was a hockey analyst for CBS for, I think, over 20 years before joining

the MSG radio booth with Alex Faust this season.

So if you're in the car at any point or ever listening on the radio, Dave is going to be the voice that you hear doing a lot of the analysis, really, really knowledgeable when it comes to the game.

And so we are going to get to know him a bit later on in this episode and probably get his thoughts on what we've seen from the Rangers so far, but definitely want to talk about his journey to this

point first and foremost. But, of course, we will start as we always start by talking about

the latest that is going on with the Rangers. And I don't know if crosswords is the right word,

but it does feel like we've reached a little bit of a fork in the road in

this season already for the Rangers. Now, still super early. That's going to be the disclaimer

for probably at least a few more weeks every time we're analyzing what's going on on this podcast.

They're only eight games in right now. They're sitting at three, four, and one, certainly not

the record. I think they were

hoping for. Most notably, they are 0 and 4 at home after losing 3 to 1 to the Minnesota Wild
