Welcome everyone to another episode of The Damage Report in this big abandoned echoey building,

0:10.3

a day of breaking news, scary news, honestly, although thankfully it could have ended a lot worse

0:18.2

and we'll get to that very soon. I'm very excited though, also today to be joined once again on

0:24.4

the program by writer and vlogger, Yasmin Ali Akhan. Welcome back to the show.

0:29.4

Hi John, good to be back. I'm very excited to be here.

0:33.0

Good to have you here. Very excited to have you here to respond to that VP debate last night.

0:38.2

I know that you watched that. So apologies for you having to do that, but we have a few different

0:44.4

segments of that that I know we're going to want to respond to. So I'm glad to have you here.

0:48.9

Yeah, yeah, I did watch the debate. I actually, I didn't watch the presidential debate,

0:53.8

and I was very intentional and very deliberate. I did a whole run down on why I didn't watch it,

0:58.2

but I did watch the VP debate and it was painful. It sucks. But we got to talk about it.

1:04.5

We do. I just want to briefly mention one other thing because you're located in Texas right now.

1:09.0

You live in Texas, correct? I do, yes. So I used to live in Houston. Yes, so I used to live in Austin,

1:15.5

and I just want to say I know we can't devote a lot of time to it, but the voter suppression that

1:20.3

is going on in Texas right now is insane. I don't know if you saw the video of the line of cars waiting

1:26.0

to drop off their ballots at the one collection spot in Harris County. Did you see that?

1:30.9

I didn't see the video, but I've been talking about this a lot lately because it is a really big

1:35.3

problem. Governor Abbott of Texas, he basically, well, he gave us more early voting dates, right?

1:44.6

So we extended our early voting period to start October 13th, so next week. And the Texas GOP,

1:50.6

they sued him. They took him to the Texas Supreme Court for doing that. So there was no reason for

1:55.4

them to do that besides that they wanted to suppress more votes. Additionally, what they did was

2:02.6

we had all these ballot boxes set up because the Democrats were saying, if you're worried about COVID,
